Centre for excellence is the art hub of Tata Steel in Jamshedpur. It houses an enviable collection of art pieces by various Indian and world renowned artists like M.F Hussain and Ela Menon to name a few.  The management at CFE has plans to built a state of the art Art Gallery by converting two of it’s large display halls currently used for housing various informative material. The art gallery is envisaged to be modern and also have interactive elements.

The main focal point of the design were the priceless paintings. The gallery was envisaged as a backdrop for these magnificent art work, whose functionality would be to enhance the visual presence of the paintings. Stemming from this concept the entire gallery was mostly kept color neutral by using black and white colors, and therefore letting the paintings add the vibrant colors and be the centre of focus.

The first gallery would house the paintings of the masters, while the second gallery would house the other paintings and art pieces, and would be updated constantly. The second gallery would be open to public and would also house interactive zones like a huge ‘paint your own masterpiece’ video wall, Virtual reality kiosk that would let the user peer back into the past of the gallery. The user experience would also be enhanced with the help of augmented reality, which would churn out more information about individual exhibits.
