Tata Steel R&D department is housed in the main building, and has an ancillary Technology block. Both the buildings are old and therefore outdated in terms of design requirements and aesthetics. The proposal dealt with making the technology block more presentable. The exterior would be clad with a steel grid frame and the grids would be randomly treated with wind sculptures (small plates which oscillate in strong wind to form dynamic patterns) and vertical green vegetation. The intent was to not disturb the old building or take excess structural load from the same. On the hand the interiors were done up to relieve the drab look of an old industrial building with warm wooden textures couple with green vegetation which could be grown under artificial grow lights.
