MTMH was established by the house of Tata to aid treatment of Cancer in and around Jamshedpur. Started, and still operating with the idea of providing healthcare at affordable prices, MTMH is one of the few Cancer healthcare centres in Jharkhand. Tata Trusts in its humanitarian role has taken up the ambitious task of upgrading and providing state of the art Cancer treatment Pan - India. In Jharkhand it is closely working with Tata Steel to upgrade the facility at MTMH.

A modern facility housing the state's first PET CT facility, LINAC bunker and spacious wards and private cabins has been envisaged and designed. This facility will be connected to the refurbished and rejuvenated MTMH building by a sky-bridge over an existing road.

Once completed, in conjunction with other L1 facilities at Ranchi, MTMH will form the crux of cancer treatment in the state of Jharkhand.

Major portion of the facility was inaugurated by Mr. Ratan Tata in March,2019 to much fanfare and media coverage.
