The enGENE lab was conceived as a fresh, young lab space for brilliant minds to collaborate and create. Implementation of Solar technology, close loop building systems and efficient HVAC resulted in a building highly efficient in its function. The overall structure was provided by Tata Bluescope as a prefabricated lightweight steel structure, clad with exterior grade fiber cement board. High pressure laminates with natural wood feel was used for external cladding, to help merge the structure with the lush green surroundings. Large fixed glass windows provided the required ingress of natural light into the space.

The lab was inaugurated by Mr. T.V. Narendran, Tata Steel MD. The project was much appreciated in all forums including the Tata Steel MD Online forum, wherein it was mentioned to be a unique lab and MD Tata Steel urged people to go and visit the lab. It was also commemorated with the most Innovative lab of the year award at Mumbai.
