Project Name: Healing garden at TMH
Name of Client: Suri Seva Foundation (Trust)
Type of project: Institutional
Location: TMH, Jamshedpur
Status : Ongoing
After the success of Pritpal healing garden, Suri Seva foundation intends to further the legacy by building more healing gardens for patients inside the campus of Tata Main Hospital. The proposed healing garden will be spread over 9000sq.ft of an existing lawn. The proposal include a winding main walkway carving out 3 nodes containing various activities and functions. The main guiding principle is "Ying and Tang" or the balance between nature and man's intervention. A small lily pond with fountains, adjacent gazebo and butterfly garden provides for an excellent space for activities like meditation and yoga. A soothing Zen garden, activity areas where patients benefit from interaction with plants while also engaging in light physiotherapy, raised planter beds with plants which influence the senses of sight, taste and smell, a small winding "acupressure walkway" built of round pebbles, come together to enhance the healing process. The small yet invigorating and replenishing jungle trail takes the patient into the lap of nature, away from the urban setting of a hospital. Local materials, storm water management, local variety of plants and drip irrigation system will help keep the project sustainable. The garden is centered around its main beneficiary, namely the patient.
