The P.A.R.C. Center will be a showcase for the R&D department of Tata Steel. Conveniently located opposite the R&D main building ,it will have a distinct vantage view point. The entrance of the building treats the visitor to a double height atrium and a connecting bridge. Feeding off this space is a large display area which would exhibit the products of the group, to important visitors like MDs , CEOs of automobile industry. At the heart of the building is a large double height testing hall with numerous testing machines and labs. Smaller supporting labs and machines take up the rest of the single height spaces in the ground floor.
The second floor would mainly house open office sitting for the researchers and private cabins for the executives. A large conference hall partly perched above the double height testing hall treats the users to a spectacular panoramic view of the space below.
Designed to respect the environment, the facility has been planned in a manner to cut minimum trees (site is dotted with a wide variety of tress), taking the shape according to it's placement. A large central courtyard was envisaged not only to protect 2 large trees but also to give some character to the spaces. Solar shading devices, carefully positioned windows, internal courtyard and north light truss are some of the features which compliment this strategy. The building shall also boast of a prefabricated steel core.
